Baby Jogger City Select Review

As one of the pricer items on your baby registry, it’s important to get your money’s worth when looking for a stroller. Starting at $539.99 on Amazon, the Baby Jogger City Select stroller is an investment you want to be sure of.

Baby Jogger has won countless awards from organizations like the National Parenting Publications, Mother & Baby Awards, Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine, and more. One of their most popular strollers is the City Select.

The newest version of the stroller is sleeker and only a $10 price jump from the 2018 model. What sets it apart from other strollers is its ability to grow with your family. You can easily transform the Baby Jogger City Select to a tandem stroller, so if you have another baby on the way, you can keep the stroller you love.

The customizable ability doesn’t stop there, though. You can also mix and match color and pattern combinations with Baby Joggers’ second seats, bassinets, and car seat adapters. It also allows for you to reconfigure it to be front facing, parent facing, or sibling facing. The overall theme with this stroller? Choices.

Things to consider before buying a Baby Jogger City Select

If you’re a parent who is expecting to have a second child fairly soon after the first, this stroller is for you. You get a reliable and safe stroller that will last, and you don’t have to go and buy a new one when the second baby comes. You also aren’t stuck pushing around a double stroller when you just have the one child.

If you love to jog with your stroller or want something lightweight for when you’re on the go, you should invest in something else. Try the Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller, which is made for parents on the run. If you’re looking for something in a lower price range, try out Graco’s Ready2Grow LX Double Stroller.

Before buying, think about how much you value the customizability, as that is the major selling point for the Baby Jogger City Select. If you’re looking for something that’s highly functional and perfect for running errands or walks in the parks, it’s one of the best out there.

Features and Benefits

Compactability

As someone who can’t even put together an IKEA bookshelf, I don’t need to be worrying about how to fold and unfold my baby stroller. The city select, though, makes it simple. You just lift the levers that say “fold” and it compacts nicely. Keep in mind that it is quite long once folded, so make sure it fits into your car.

Maneuverability

One of my favourite features on this stroller is how it glides. I’m constantly running errands with a coffee in one hand and a snack in the other, so the easier to maneuver the better. This stroller features one-handed steering with the 8” front wheels’ swivel ability.

Feel like taking it off road? These stroller wheels also can take on tons of different terrains. For rougher grounds, you can lock the two front wheels in place, making it more stable and safer. It makes it great for anyone who likes to go from city streets to a grassy park, or, worst of all, if you’re faced with pushing the stroller through snow.

Handlebar

I’ll admit I had no idea what a telescopic handlebar was prior to experiencing it. It basically means that it adjusts for length, this one going from 38.5″ to 41.5″. It makes it easy if you are switching who is doing the pushing regularly, working for the tallest of parents.

The parking brakes are also on the handlebar side. It’s always convenient to have a hand-operated brake to keep it high-heel friendly.

Seats

The reversibility of the seats is a huge pro so you can choose which way your baby is facing, with a total of 16 different seating configurations for two seats. Be mindful that the harness is a bit tricky to buckle, so it might take some getting used to.

Another major plus is that it is fully reclinable with lots of room. For longer trips, your baby can lean back fully for nap time. The seat also holds up to 45 pounds.

One of my favorite parts is the seat canopy, which has a window and is adjustable in height. You can keep your eyes on your baby the whole time and have a little peek-a-boo fun! The window also has a magnetic closure cover for a quiet close that won’t wake up the sleeping toddler. Plus, the seats feature adjustable footrests.

Storage

The basket underneath the seat is a fairly common feature for strollers, but this one is large enough to fit all of your diaper bag accessories. It can hold up to 15lbs, which is pretty significant.

Additional storage space can be found on the back, where there is a convent mesh pocket. If you’re still looking for more, you can purchase the Shopping Tote that’s sold separately. It attaches to the front of the stroll and can hold up to 10lbs. However, this is one of the major cons of Baby Jogger, that everything is sold separately so the prices add up fast.

What people are saying

From combing the internet endlessly, it’s clear that the majority of parents who purchase the City Select are in love. On Amazon.com, 80% of buyers gave it five stars.

Overwhelmingly, people are happy with the seats and space they allow for, as well as the maneuvering ability. There are countless reviews of happy parents going for trail walks with no problem.

“This stroller is the absolute best! It’s perfect for our single child but can grow with our family! It folds up nearly flat. And the attachments aren’t super expensive for modifying the stroller to your individual needs. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase!” – Kelsy, Amazon.com Review

“The best stroller EVER! Very durable. Plenty of storage space underneath. Only con would be the amount of space it takes up in the trunk.” – Mama11, Amazon.com Review

“This stroller is the best stroller I’ve ever used. For a convertible stroller, it has great maneuverability and practically pushes itself. The extending handle is convenient for my husband, who is tall. The storage basket is large, but will only hold up to 15 pounds, the threads also come out of it easily (but that does not affect storage).” – Tallie, Amazon.com Review

Alternatives

If you’re looking for a convertible stroller, but the cons outweigh the pros for the Baby Jogger City Select, here are some alternatives:

Uppababy Vista Stroller

Similar to the baby Jogger City Select, this stroller makes it easy to add seats. Unlike the Baby Jogger, this allows for moving three kids at the same time. So, if you have a fast-growing family, twins, or triplets, this is a great option. If not, though, the hefty price of $969.99 is hard to justify.

Uppababy

  • High price point
  • More storage space
  • Holds more seats
  • Heavier

Baby Jogger

  • Mid-range price point
  • Two-seat capacity
  • Lower-quality materials

Overall, the Uppababy stroller is worth taking a look at if you have the financial means and want high quality and high versatility.

Graco’s Ready2Grow LX 2.0 Double Stroller

Graco Ready2Grow LX 2.0 Double Stroller Features Bench Seat and Standing Platform Options

Already mentioned previously, the Graco Ready2Grow stroller is a great option at a lower price point. It features a large storage basket, a convenient snack tray, and swivel wheels in the front.

Graco

  • Although featuring swivel wheels, the front wheels don’t lock, making it harder to maneuver over different terrain
  • Includes more accessories, like the removable snack tray
  • Holds a child up to 50lbs

Baby Jogger

  • More additional options for purchasing accessories
  • Glides better on all terrain
  • Easier seat removability and more configuration options

If you want something that won’t break the bank and still does the trick for one or two kids, go with the Graco Ready2Grow.

The Evenflo Pivot Xpand is storage friendly. With 22 seat configurations, multiple recline positions, and extra-large storage spaces, it’s great for anyone with a lot of stuff to haul around. For anyone who is taking the stroller with them for errands and groceries, this is the one to get.

It comes with a second seat, but it’s only suited for infants. This means it’s less convenient as your kids get older but it’s ideal if you have a toddler and an infant.

Evenflo

  • Difficult to maneuver
  • 22 seat configurations
  • Extra-large storage basket

Baby Jogger
